Band 5 Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor (ERI)

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of exercise based rehabilitation, including highly specialist work in the musculo skeletal/sports and training injury area for the population at risk (PAR), meeting Standards for Better Health by using a multidisciplinary approach.

To provide a positive caring environment where patients can expect a high quality professional service.

To provide full support to the line manager in ensuring the provision of a comprehensive and professional rehabilitation service for entitled personnel. This will include undertaking highly skilled and specialist work, peer review and support to Junior/other ERIs working within the Unit.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

  • Perform appropriate clinical assessments and design and implement safe and progressive exercise treatment schedules for all patients after the MO/Physiotherapist/Clinical Team Manager Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC only) has made a diagnosis.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to ensure informed consent for treatment, good understanding of their conditions and maximise their rehabilitation potential.
  • Keep a record of all specific treatments given and a record of individual patient progression/regression in respect of such treatments on Defence Medical Information Capability Programme (DMICP) in accordance with the Standards of Proficiency to Practice (SPP). Report any findings to the MO/Physiotherapist.
Qualifications
  • Ex military ERI with proof of clinical currency via CPD evidence
  • OR
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) with honours in Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation or Sports Therapy, and a full graduate membership of BASRaT or the Society of Sports Therapy, and entitlement to the title Graduate Sports Rehabilitator.
  • OR
  • Physiotherapist (must be a member of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC .

Other Information

All employees joining the Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6 month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.
