Civilian Dental Hygienists may be requested to travel to and work from other local regional centres as detailed by their Line Manager or Practice Manager.

This role offers 37.5 hours per week and all requests to work flexibly will be considered, allowing for business needs, and reviewed annually. The salary will be pro-rata where part-time hours are undertaken.

Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be primarily providing dental treatment, oral hygiene instruction and education, administration, enhancing force generation and operational capability and minimising dental morbidity on operations.

The successful applicant will be providing, if requested, clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in other local Defence Primary Healthcare sites or health fairs.

Job responsibilities
  • Ensuring your surgery is prepared appropriately for the days patients in accordance with current regulations.
  • Carrying out and recording daily maintenance, servicing and pre-use checks of dental equipment, reporting defects in accordance with current equipment care policies.
  • Carrying out dental work under the direction of a registered dentist who has examined the patient and indicated in writing the course of treatment to be provided. This is in accordance with the Dental Auxiliary Regulations 1986, as amended by the Dental Auxiliaries (amended) Regulations 1991.
  • Ensuring that all periodontal patients and patients in other risk categories (example) caries are recalled appropriately for review or at the next Periodic Dental Inspection appointments.
  • Accurately recorded treatment on each patient's electronic health record on Defence Medical Information Capability Programme (DMICP).
  • Carry out stringent Infection Prevention Control procedures to prevent physical, chemical, and microbiological contamination from blood, saliva, and other body fluids.
