Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) are searching for an experienced and passionate band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurse to join their highly skilled team.
GOSH is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare. GOSH is an acute specialist paediatric hospital with a mission to provide world-class care to children and young people with rare, complex and difficult-to-treat conditions. Together with our research partner, the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, we form the UK's only academic Biomedical Research Centre specialising in paediatrics. Since its formation in 1852, the hospital has been dedicated to children's healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.
RoleThe Role:
The Mildred Creak Unit at Great Ormond Street is an in-patient psychiatric unit for seven to forteen year olds.
We have seven inpatient beds available on the unit as well as three day patient spaces and we accept children with a range of behavioural and emotional difficulties.
We work closely with families to provide a space where feelings can be talked and thought about. The role involves working as a member of the nursing team to provide care to the young people.
You will facilitate their daily routines and attendance of the therapeutic timetable in a nurturing and supportive manner.
The role includes various duties such as supporting young people to eat, helping young people with their physiotherapy programmes, providing a space for young people to talk about their feelings as well as clinical tasks such as administration of medication, nasogastric feeding, physical observations and the facilitation of therapeutic groups.
The role also involves aspects of housekeeping and admin.
Responsibilities- To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centered care to the children, young people and families.
- Ability to promote family centered care and establish good relationships with children, young people and their families.
- To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
- To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence.
- To actively engage with young people and families, in order to facilitate recovery from their individual difficulties.
- To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).
- NMC Registered Nurse Child, Mental Health or Learning Disability
- Relevant nursing qualification
- Evidence of ongoing professional development linked to demonstrable competencies
- Experience of having worked with children/young people with mental health difficulties
- Understanding of professional and current issues in CAMHS
- Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
- Basic knowledge of computer skills
- Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
- Understating or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
- Understanding of principles of clinical governance (e.g. risk management, audit, quality)
- Experience of working as part of a diverse team
- Experience of contributing to an inclusive workplace culture
- Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
- Knowledge of clinical incidents and complaints and reporting
