Job Description
Band 3 Therapy Support Worker- Rheumatology.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Rheumatology musculoskeletal service at Solihull Hospital as a band 3 Therapy Support Worker which is a local team created to serve patients across the region with Rheumatological conditions via a multi-disciplinary approach. You will be a key member of the team, providing rehabilitation support alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Consultants. The role would primarily be based at Solihull Hospital and we work across a 7 day service. This role is ideal for anyone with experience as a physiotherapy or occupational therapy assistant or reablement worker who is keen to progress their knowledge to the wider multidisciplinary team and be part of an innovative service.

Main duties of the job

To support qualified therapists in delivering rehabilitation programmes on an individual and group basis.

To monitor progress and function of individuals in order to contribute to the ongoing assessment of their needs by liaising with team colleagues.

To support the education of service users and their families/carers to promote self-management of their condition.

To support the organisation and facilitation of group sessions.

To inform service users of other support services and introduce them where agreed as part of a rehabilitation care plan.

Support in the administrative aspects of patient care, including booking appointments, ordering equipment.

You will be responsible for your own caseload with support and you will need excellent time management and prioritisation skills.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent including English and maths
  • Able to demonstrate competence in maths and written and spoken English
  • Educated to A Level / NVQ 3/ BTEC or equivalent (e.g NVQ 2 or similar vocational qualification PLUS experience working in a care setting)
  • Care certificate or be willing to work towards this
  • Evidence of recent education / personal development related to Healthcare.
Experience
  • Relevant therapy / health / social care experience
  • Experience of dealing with peopleExperience of working in a team
  • Can demonstrate a broad understanding of relevant areas of therapy, the effect of illness/critical conditions / disability on function and health and basic aims of rehabilitation
  • Good understanding of the role of therapy support worker in the relevant area
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in healthcare
  • Experience of communicating with and motivating patients who may have communication difficulties
  • Experience of working in a role supporting therapists
  • Experience of working with the relevant patient group
  • Broad understanding of working environment healthcare/NHS/UHB trust/acute care/community as applicable
