What's the opportunity? (Role)

We are looking for a technically skilled and detail driven AV Commissioning Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. This role suits someone with hands on experience in AV systems who enjoys working on site, solving problems, and ensuring systems are delivered to a high standard.

You'll be responsible for commissioning AV systems across a range of commercial smart building projects. Working under the guidance of the Lead Commissioning Engineer, you'll carry out functional testing, system validation, and light programming where required. You'll also play a key role in identifying and reporting design or installation issues, feeding this back through the correct channels.

What will you be doing? (Responsibilities)
  • Commission AV systems in line with project documentation ensuring functionality, performance, and user experience meet expectations
  • Carry out structured testing, fault finding, and validation of installed systems including displays, audio systems, control processors, and networked AV equipment
  • Work collaboratively with programmers to query system behaviours and upload or update configurations where necessary
  • Provide detailed feedback on issues or deviations to the Lead Commissioning Engineer including observations around design, installation quality, or programming behaviour
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are accurately documented
  • Maintain a tidy and professional working environment on site in line with Hereworks' safety and quality standards
  • Adhere to project schedules and communicate any blockers or dependencies to the Lead Commissioning Engineer
  • Participate in occasional client facing activities such as support during handovers or user acceptance testing as directed
  • Support continuous improvement of commissioning practices through participation in feedback loops, tool development, or process updates
Key Interfaces
  • Lead Commissioning Engineer: Direct reporting line for task assignment, technical guidance, issue escalation, and design feedback
  • Programmers: Collaborates during commissioning to validate functionality, raise queries, and assist with configuration adjustments
  • Project Managers: Coordinates indirectly via the Lead Engineer on scheduling, site readiness, and project status
  • Installation Teams: Interfaces on site to verify installation quality and ensure readiness for commissioning
  • Clients: May participate in handover activities or demonstrations as directed by the Lead Commissioning Engineer
What do you need? (Ideal Requirements)
  • Proven experience commissioning AV systems in commercial environments with a strong grasp of AV signal flow, system testing, and hardware setup
  • Familiarity with control systems such as Crestron, QSYS, AMX, or Extron and capable of basic programming tasks such as uploading code and DSP adjustments
  • Competency with AV over IP systems, IP configuration, and networked AV hardware
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings including schematics, cable schedules, and rack layouts
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong problem solving skills, and a focus on delivering high quality outcomes
  • Comfortable working independently on site while coordinating closely with the Lead Commissioning Engineer
  • Clear and confident communicator with a professional approach to team collaboration and client interaction when required
  • AVIXA CTS certification or currently working towards it
  • Willingness to upskill through CPD and expand knowledge into Smart Building technologies and integration platforms
