Job Description

The Associate Director of Research, Innovation and Knowledge post is a senior leadership position within NHS Fife responsible for managing the budget provided by the Chief Scientist Office, funding from other sources and strategic and operational responsibility for NHS Fife research and innovation infrastructure including clinical research facilities and staff; R&D Management approval, Quality and Performance, Innovation and Library and Knowledge Services.

We are now seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to both operationally manage our research, innovation and knowledge support infrastructure and bring inspirational leadership to a team of research, innovation and knowledge dedicated professionals, support and project staff.

Reporting to the Board Medical Director- NHS Fife, the post holder will work closely to refine the direction of clinical research, innovation and knowledge strategy still further to ensure it can support the development of new and innovative areas of multidisciplinary clinical research excellence and innovative solutions to health and care challenges.

You will be responsible and accountable for a budget in excess of £2M to fund clinical investigations and all activities associated with the Board's Research and Innovation infrastructure.

The role will also focus on building strong synergistic links with the Scottish Government's Chief Scientist Office (CSO), National Health Research Scotland (NRS), Higher Education Institutions and partners, the Scottish Regional Innovation Hubs, the Dunfermline Group of Health Boards and elsewhere to further our research and innovation efforts, programmes and funding applications.

We are looking for someone who commands credibility with senior colleagues and can provide inspirational leadership in developing NHS Fife's research and innovation investment and support for clinical areas and staff. With a reputation for clinical research and/or innovation effectiveness the successful candidate will come to us being able to draw on significant experience in Research and Innovation strategy, policy, funding and governance to deliver quality research and innovation for the benefit of patients. Demonstrable evidence of a successful track record of service and staff development in a large and complex organisation are essential.

You will need to have sound experience and a track record in Research and Innovation and be committed to delivering excellent service. The successful candidate is likely to be a senior scientist/academic/senior manager and already have significant experience in research and innovation leadership.

Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills are essential to ensure credibility with local, regional, national and international partnerships and collaborations ensuring that NHS Fife's reputation and profile continue to be enhanced in the research and innovation landscape.
