We are looking for a Building Transformation Associate Director to join our team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
The Associate Director, Building Transformation will report directly to the Chief Information Officer and joining the senior leadership team. Leading the strategic redevelopment and modernisation of our operational property portfolio.
What will I be doing?
You will be leading the major capital property development for the upgrade of Wellcome's London-based operational property. This role will be the client lead and development subject matter expert. They will ensure the successful delivery of the Programme through the RIBA stages, to the required standard of quality, within the defined budgets and timescale.
As the Building Development Director, you will:
Lead the strategic redevelopment and modernisation of Wellcome's property portfolio, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, mission, and net-zero ambitions by 2030.
Oversee major capital projects, managing diverse teams and external partners to fulfil project goals efficiently, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility throughout.
Champion sustainability and innovative practices within building transformation plans, including securing green funding and identifying opportunities for further integration.
Foster cross-functional collaboration and lead reporting to governance forums, ensuring project outcomes reflect best practices and benefit diverse communities.
Proactively manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, maintaining business continuity and addressing conflicts or challenges through decisive, adaptable leadership.

In order to deliver this large transformation programme, we are seeking an experienced building development specialist.
We are looking for someone who:
Has demonstrable experience of managing large construction projects in a similar role working client side, with complex stakeholders and user multiple in-situ user needs
Substantial experience of managing service contracts and managing internal stakeholder expectations
Is comfortable navigating internal governance approvals, presenting complex information in an accessible format, up to including Board of Governors level.
Has experience of managing complex change programmes associated with construction and building change activity.

Minimum Criteria:
Substantial experience in building transformation, large scale capital projects, within the non-profit or arts and heritage sector. Demonstrated proficiency in managing diverse stakeholders, including community users, donors, trustees, and local authorities.
Understanding of inclusive design and sustainability principles, particularly in cultural venues and heritage or listed buildings.

Our Hybrid Way of Working

At Wellcome we have a hybrid way of working which is 3 days in our Euston Road offices (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office. Given the nature of this role, it is likely that at points within the programme, site attendance will be required at other times, outside of the core hybrid requirements. Typically this will be on Mondays/Fridays and may include occasional weekend working during the construction phase of this project.
