Associate Director for Partnerships and Sustainability

Position Summary: NB: This advert will close on 30th September 2025.

The Associate Director, Partnerships and Sustainability for Habitat for Humanity Africa will be a strategic leader responsible for managing fundraising, resource mobilization, partnership engagement, policy advocacy, and volunteer engagement efforts across Africa. This role is crucial in securing funding, building strong partnerships, and influencing policy changes to promote affordable housing and sustainable development across the region. In addition, the position involves close collaboration with Habitat for Humanity's global and national fundraising teams, advocacy, and communications department to amplify the impact of Habitat for Humanity's initiatives in Africa. The Associate Director will ensure that Habitat for Humanity Africa expands its reach and impact through strategic partnerships, a strong volunteer network, and advocacy for policy reforms that align with the organization's mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
    • Lead the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Habitat for Humanity Africa in collaboration with global fundraising teams such as GFOI, individual giving, and global fundraising networks.
    • Lead and coordinate the development of high-quality fundraising proposals, grant applications, and donor reports for Africa National Offices, in collaboration with global fundraising teams and communication teams to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals through appropriate and tailor-made capacity development on proposal writing and funding the acquisition of grants writes to support NOs where need be.
  2. Partnership Engagement and external representation
    • Build and nurture strategic partnerships with national and international organizations, the private sector, development agencies, and government bodies, in alignment with global strategies.
    • Develop robust partnership engagement frameworks that support both local, national and regional MOUs that bring value-add to Habitat for Humanity work in Africa.
    • Act as a liaison between Habitat for Humanity Africa and external partners, ensuring smooth coordination and monitoring of partnership progress.
    • Work with the communications team to ensure Habitat for Humanity Africa's key messages and impact are communicated effectively to global audiences through media, publications, and social media platforms.
  3. Policy and Advocacy
    • Lead the implementation of Africa Region Advocacy Strategy Framework to influence housing policies and regulations across Africa, ensuring that Habitat for Humanity's mission of promoting affordable housing and sustainable development is closely aligned with countries' national priorities, while promoting inclusive, just and equitable access to decent housing
    • Lead the engagement with government agencies, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advocate for policy changes that support Habitat for Humanity's goals.
    • Lead the national and global advocacy campaigns, forums, and policy dialogues at regional and global levels, in collaboration with global advocacy teams
  4. Volunteer Engagement
    • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Volunteer Engagement Strategy for Africa region, in collaboration with global volunteer networks, to increase volunteer participation in Habitat for Humanity Africa's programs.
    • Champion the development of the systems to recruit, train, and retain volunteers, ensuring they feel integrated into Habitat for Humanity's culture and mission. - Foster long-term relationships with volunteers, ensuring they are empowered and have a fulfilling experience while contributing to Habitat's success.
    • Work with the communications team to develop recognition programs and highlight volunteer contributions to amplify engagement and support.
  5. Strategic Leadership
    • Collaborate with Habitat for Humanity Africa's senior leadership team and global fundraising teams to:
    • Oversee the management of budgets and resources allocated to partnerships, fundraising, and advocacy efforts, ensuring effective and transparent use of resources.
    • Track and report progress on fundraising, partnership, and policy initiatives, providing regular updates to senior leadership and global fundraising teams on the impact and effectiveness of these efforts.
    • Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing team within the Partnerships and Sustainability
  6. Collaboration with Global Fundraising and Communications Teams
    • Work closely with global fundraising teams (including GFOI, individual giving, and global funding networks) to align efforts and ensure consistent and coordinated fundraising activities.
    • Collaborate with the communications team to amplify Habitat for Humanity Africa's messaging, ensuring alignment with global campaigns and initiatives department, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and results-oriented action
Education
  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years relevant experience or Master's degree in a related field: international relations, international development, public relations, business administration, project management, sustainable development or a related field
  • Specialization and/or professional certification in fundraising/ resource mobilization, policy and advocacy is preferred
Years of Related Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in fundraising, partnerships, policy advocacy, or a related area, ideally within a non-profit, international development, or corporate social responsibility context.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, particularly in a global or multi-country setting.
  • Experience working with a diverse set of stakeholders, including governments, private sector partners, donors, and grassroots organizations.
  • Strong background in managing and growing strategic partnerships, particularly in sectors such as housing, community development, or sustainability.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams, including mentoring and providing strategic guidance to junior staff.
  • Prior experience in policy advocacy and engagement with government agencies or international development bodies is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, particularly in a global or multi-country setting (Highly Proficient proficiency)
