Job Description SummaryThe Assistant Workshop Manager supports the Preparation Manager in the day-to-day operation of the workshop, ensuring equipment is prepared safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. The role combines hands on operational involvement with leadership responsibilities, supporting productivity, compliance, quality and customer service objectives.
Job Description Person Specification- Extensive knowledge of the plant or equipment hire industry.
- Previous experience in a workshop supervisory or senior engineer role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership and team building abilities.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong customer service focus.
- Commercial awareness.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and workshop management systems.
- Good understanding of engineer productivity, utilisation and efficiency targets.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and make sound decision.
- Support the day-to-day running of the workshop.
- Allocate and monitor workloads to maximise engineer productivity and ensure customer deadlines are achieved.
- Carry out final quality inspections where authorised.
- Monitor workshop performance and recommend improvements.
- Liaise with the Parts Department to ensure timely parts availability.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, suppliers and customers.
- Support excellent customer service and resolve operational issues where appropriate.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to workshop engineers and apprentices.
- Coach and mentor staff to improve skills and performance.
- Support induction, training and performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and Health & Safety legislation.
- Promote safe working practices and PPE compliance.
- Report and investigate accidents, hazards and near misses where required.
