OverviewThe Primary MHTR service provides psychological intervention to people coming into contact with the criminal justice system who are granted a mental health treatment requirement as part of a community order. The Assistant Psychologist (MHTR Practitioner) role is central to assessing suitability and offering brief interventions to this client group, under the supervision of a Principal Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Lead).
The team, with support of criminal justice partners and colleagues, aims to divert people away from the criminal justice system and short custodial sentences, and reduce reoffending via improving access to psychological interventions by addressing underlying unmet needs.

ResponsibilitiesThe role is central to assessing suitability and offering brief psychological interventions to individuals on a mental health treatment requirement, under supervision of a Principal Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Lead).
Please note that this post requires a Psychology degree meeting the requirements for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society.
Qualifications and requirements- Good Honours undergraduate degree (with GBC) in Psychology
- Experience of working with adults or older adults with MH difficulties
- Evidence of working in a service where agreed targets are in place, demonstrating clinical outcomes
- Car driver to have access to independent means of transport for work purposes and willingness to travel to locations throughout the organisation
- Ability to manage own clinical practice, caseload and time, with supervision
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
