We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Assistant Project Manager, to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.

This role, reporting to a Programme Manager, will provide project management support to a dedicated project or programme of work. The projects and programme will have strong engineering, procurement, construction and/or regulatory focus, in relation to the development of a new nuclear power station. This role will involve managing a specific project(s) and will provide support to the Programme Manager. The role will require a level of project and programme management experience.

The key results and outcomes of the role are as follows:
  • Ensuring on-time and on-budget project delivery of their own projects.
  • Ensure the project plans are kept up to date by the team, with support from the Project Planners.
  • Manage the regular update of financial forecasts, with support from the Cost Engineers.
  • Working with key internal stakeholders to understand performance and status of the key deliverables.
  • Reporting performance and escalate issues to the Senior Project Manager.
  • Creating a positive and productive work environment both within the project team and across other business functions.
  • Document lessons learned and apply these in future work.
  • Review and manage project risks and provide actionable mitigations.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the organisation's processes and ways of working.
  • Ensuring compliance with project management processes and procedures.
  • Support meetings with external stakeholders as required.

Key Selection Criteria

Project management
  • Knowledge: The Project Manager needs to be familiar with project management methodologies and tools. They should also have a good understanding of risk management, budget management, and change management.
  • Experience: Should also have experience managing projects. This should be demonstrated by previous on-the-job experience. There should be previous experience of setting up and delivering complex engineering projects (multiyear, multi £M projects). Experience of working in teams developing schedules and budgets to achieve outcomes including monitoring the performance of a complex project or programme.
  • Skills: A variety of project management skills, such as planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and change management.
  • Technical skills: Knowledge of specific software and tools (training can be provided where gaps exist), including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, ARM, SAP, Excel, Power BI and Power Apps.
Technical Experience
  • Technical knowledge: Have a strong understanding of the engineering principles and practices relevant to the projects they are managing. This includes knowledge of the specific technologies and tools that are being used.Previous Regulatory experience would be advantageous, managing licensing or consenting projects, working with government bodies or delivering projects in complex regulatory environments.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
  • Experience Influencing and using inter-personal skills to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation and to simplify complex topics and communicate to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Communication skills: Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
  • Experience Influencing and using inter-personal skills to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation and to simplify complex topics and communicate to a wide range of stakeholders.
