Assistant Groundskeeper

Role: Work as part of a team to maintain the School's facilities, in particular the grounds, to ensure an appropriate and safe environment within which to provide the teaching of the curriculum and other activities by pupils.

This role includes work demanding physical effort and working in unfavourable weather conditions when necessary. This post will work annualised hours, reflecting the needs of the School.

This will include working on Saturdays, (with five working days in each period Monday to Saturday).

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• General preparation of sports areas to include rugby, cricket and soccer pitches.
• Maintenance of grounds including grass, hedges, perimeter areas, landscaped areas, paths and driveways, including clearing of snow and ice from school paths and roads when required and collection of leaves and litter.
• Maintenance of pavilions, including cleaning of changing rooms, showers, toilets, clearing of drains and gutters etc.
• Operation of tools and equipment to include light tools e.g. knapsack sprayer, and tractor mounted equipment as necessary and appropriate.
• Erection/dismantling of sports equipment.
• Driving motor vehicles, to operate tractor mounted equipment, to use power-driven tools and operate relevant plant and equipment.
• Preparation of cricket squares, both grass and artificial, to meet the standards expected by the School. Mowing, line-marking, seeding, scarification etc.
• Monitoring turf health, particularly after games.
• Carrying out pitch inspections.
• Carrying out vehicle safety checks and reporting faults to line manager.
• Use of ride on mowers, tractors, rollers, line markers and other equipment relevant to the role.
• Maintenance of surrounding area including perimeter hedge and tree management.
• Ensuring safe handling of chemicals including weed killer in accordance with COSHH.
• Liaise with PE staff and external users to ensure requirements are met.
• Emptying of external litter bins.

Additional Duties:

• The driving of school vehicles; and The upkeep of a compost dump.

Other Duties

• General porterage duties.
• Support the staff in providing a safe learning environment.
• Other duties that can reasonably be expected within the role.
