The Role
At Charles Tyrwhitt, our purpose is to "Make it easy for men to dress well". The primary purpose of the Assistant Designer is to collaborate on the research and design of the non-clothing product area, assisting the main designer and Buying team.
What you will be doing
You will support the Product Design Director in producing quintessentially British product ranges relevant to the aspirational market, which 'make it easy for men to dress well' and ultimately increase sales. You will help ensure that products are relevant for all our markets, both in the UK and internationally.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have a highly creative and commercially focused portfolio that clearly demonstrates their ability to take a concept from initial idea through to finished garment across multiple categories. A strong understanding of the market and the CT customer profile is essential, along with a commercial eye, a passion for product, and well-developed taste levels. Excellent communication and influencing skills are key, as is the ability to work collaboratively with teams across Product, Retail, Marketing, Design, and E-commerce. The role also requires flexibility and the ability to travel when necessary.
Required Skills and experience
- Proactively research and organise the production of concept themes/pitch boards, collaborating to bring these to life and understanding their usage and influence.
- Support each season's range direction according to the brief given by the Design Director to meet the design and costing requirements, technical specifications, and palette.
- Travel if needed for design research, including UK design research, competitor analysis, and CT store visits to understand customer preferences and product presentation.
- Ensure constant research of new innovations and fashion trends by attending trade fairs and online research.
- Acquire strategic customer focus.
- Support the Designer in designing and developing aspirational and appealing non-clothing collections.
- Assist the Buyer in research and market direction for relevant areas.
- Deliver a fresh, creative, and commercial product range within your category.
- Produce clear, comprehensive master design packs as instructed by the designer, and interact regularly with garment technologists regarding size specifications, fit sessions, prototypes, and technical construction.
- Design, develop, and resource handlooms and dips for specific categories aligned with the aspirational market.
- Work with the Designer to refine, challenge, and present finished product categories to stakeholders, articulating the inspiration and benefits of the range.
- Own and maintain design libraries of samples, swatches, and digital files with proper naming and accessibility.
What you can expect from us:
- Competitive salary and excellent bonus scheme
- An entrepreneurial environment encouraging innovation and change
- Staff Discount from day one, including access to The White Company!
- Commitment to social responsibility through charity and sustainability partnerships
- A fun workplace with legendary Christmas and summer parties and active social events
