Are you a graduate passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Are you interested in helping teenagers make positive choices, and avoid a life of crime? Do you aspire to become a Youth Worker and want hands-on experience supporting children with mental health needs?
A Specialist Provision in Reading are looking for a patient, proactive and compassionate graduate to join their team as an SEMH Teaching Assistant. In this role, you will provide one-to-one support, assist in managing emotional well-being and help create a positive learning environment for students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. This is the perfect opportunity if you are a graduate looking to build your experience in the mental health/youth sector.
The students you will be supporting have a range of complex mental health difficulties, including struggles when regulating their own emotions, low self-esteem and attachment issues. You will help show the students the value of learning and education, as well as the benefits of positive decision making, and keeping themselves safe. You will also help implement intervention strategies, influenced by Psychological and Criminological theory, and improve their interpersonal skills, to help them when they leave school in the future.
Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one support to students with SEMH needs.
- Assist in managing emotional well-being and create a positive learning environment.
- Help implement intervention strategies influenced by psychological and criminological theory.
- Support students in developing interpersonal skills and planning for their future.
- Work closely with on-site Mental Health professionals to ensure each student reaches their potential and receives safeguarding and behaviour management training.
- Empathetic, resilient, with excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of Psychology, Criminology, Social Work or Education is beneficial.
- Graduate-level interest in mental health/youth sector and potential career in Youth Work, Outreach or Criminal Justice.
- ASAP Start
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm
- £85 - £100 per day
