Job Overview

Position: ASD Teaching Assistant Location: Godalming, Surrey Type: Full-time (Monday-Friday, 8:00?am - 3:30?pm) Salary: Paid to scale

We are seeking a dedicated Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Teaching Assistant to support a mainstream classroom in Godalming. Working closely with the class teacher, you will implement individualized strategies that promote inclusion, learning, and wellbeing for pupils on the autism spectrum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored support to students with ASD, adapting materials and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Facilitate social-communication skills through structured play, visual aids, and peer-mediated interactions.
  • Monitor and record progress, sharing observations with the teacher and external specialists.
  • Assist with behaviour-management plans, employing positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Prepare and organise sensory-friendly environments and resources.
  • Support the teacher in lesson planning, differentiation, and assessment tasks.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
Essential Requirements
  • Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in Teaching Assistant work or Special Educational Needs.
  • Experience working with children on the autism spectrum, preferably in a mainstream setting.
  • Strong understanding of ASD characteristics, communication strategies, and sensory processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, and therapists.
  • Patience, reliability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
