Job Description
Art Teacher - Alternative Provision
Are you a passionate Art Teacher looking for a role where you can use creativity to re-engage young people who may have struggled in mainstream education?

The Education Network is working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Birmingham to recruit an enthusiastic QTS Art Teacher for a long-term supply position.

This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and adaptable teacher to join a supportive school where relationships are at the heart of the education provided. You will be teaching small groups of students who may have experienced barriers to learning, helping them to rebuild confidence, develop practical skills and discover a genuine enjoyment of education.

The school provides a structured and supportive environment, with a strong focus on individual student needs. As an Art Teacher, you will have the opportunity to deliver engaging and practical lessons that allow students to express themselves, develop new skills and achieve success.

The Role
  • Teaching Art to small groups of secondary-aged students with SEMH needs
  • Planning and delivering engaging, practical and creative lessons
  • Adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs
  • Supporting students who may have SEMH needs or challenging behaviours
  • Building positive relationships and encouraging students to engage with learning
  • Promoting confidence, creativity and independence
  • Managing behaviour positively and consistently
  • Monitoring student progress and contributing to individual learning plans
  • Working closely with pastoral staff and the wider school team
The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching experience
  • Experience teaching Art at secondary level
  • A creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to engage students who may have become disengaged from mainstream education
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Previous experience within Alternative Provision, SEMH or SEND would be advantageous
