Job Description
About us

Join our team at PAC, a friendly and established automation specialist based in Gloucestershire. For over 25 years, we've been providing high-quality installation and maintenance services for automated gates, vehicle barriers, roller garage doors, and intercom/access control systems. As a fully compliant member of the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF), an approved installer for Gate Safe, and holders of CHAS Elite and SafeContractor accreditations, we work to the highest industry standards.

About the role

As an Installation Engineer Apprentice, you'll learn to install automated gate and barrier systems for domestic and commercial clients across Gloucestershire and surrounding counties. Your primary focus will be on second fix installation work, including wiring, mounting components, testing, and commissioning, with the opportunity to assist on first fix works such as groundworks, cable pulling, and motor box installation.

This is an exciting opportunity to train within our experienced installation team, gaining hands on skills from day one. As you progress, you'll be expected to work independently and, on occasion, alongside one or more experienced engineers.

We're looking for someone with a genuine interest in engineering and working with their hands, who is adaptable, proactive, and a good problem solver. If you're keen to earn while you learn and build a career in automation engineering, we want to hear from you. Apply now and take the first step towards becoming a fully qualified installation and automation engineer at PAC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out second fix installation of automated gates, barriers, bollards, and roller garage doors, including wiring, mounting components, testing, and commissioning.
  • Assist with first fix works where required, including groundworks, cable pulling, and motor box installation.
  • Install and commission intercom and access control systems.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams and installation drawings.
  • Complete all job documentation accurately, both digital and paper based.
  • Support senior engineers with additional tasks as your skills and confidence develop.
General Responsibilities
  • Observe all health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Manage your own time on jobs to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Communicate job progress with the operations team.
  • Share best practice and knowledge with other team members.
  • Promote a positive company image at all times.
Requirements
  • A full UK driving licence is preferred, as the role involves travelling independently to client sites. Candidates with a provisional licence will be considered if they are actively learning to drive.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 4 (C) or above are desirable. Candidates without these qualifications may be required to complete functional skills alongside the apprenticeship.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • A genuine interest in engineering, mechanics, or working with your hands.
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Logical thinking and a willingness to learn.
Training
  • Training course: Engineering Technician (Level 3), delivered by Gloucestershire College, Cheltenham Campus.
  • For the first two years, the apprentice will attend college two days per week, with the remaining three days spent working on site with PAC. After year two, training moves fully into the workplace, with assessments and observations carried out on site.
  • Duration: 42 months.
  • Start date: September 2026.
Working Conditions
  • This is a full time position, consisting of 40 hours per week.
  • The working hours are Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:30.
  • The role is primarily based in the field, with the apprentice travelling to client sites across Gloucestershire and surrounding counties.

How to Apply: Apply via the GOV.UK Apprenticeship Service - Application closing date: 31st May 2026.
