About the Role
The successful candidates will complete an Electrical apprenticeship in a specified timeframe and gain on the job knowledge and experience. You will develop and apply characteristics of the NCC agreed behaviours and values in all activities and actively and effectively promote the Council's vision, values, aims, objectives and priorities, putting our citizens first through the delivery of best value services.
Key accountabilities:
To undertake on-site training alongside and under the supervision of a qualified electrician in all aspects of electrical work, including;
- Using engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills.
- Contribute to the design, development, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of products, equipment, processes, of electric systems or services. Electrical equipment and systems may include switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, protective devices, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment as well as property and life safety installations and renewable energy technologies plus the installation and maintenance of electrical connections of new and emerging technologies supporting low carbon targets.
- Electricians may work in both indoor and outdoor settings on a range of electrical equipment and systems.
- You will be expected to work on own proficiently and work without immediate supervision in the most efficient and economical manner.
- Set out jobs from drawings and specifications and requisition the necessary installation materials.
- Electrical safety is an important area of Electricians' work. On completion of their work the electrical installation must be safe to use.
- Electricians must comply with statutory and non-statutory requirements including the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Electricity at Work Regulations.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience of working in a team and individually.
- The ability to demonstrate capacity to organise self/materials/tasks, use own initiative, prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
- The ability to understand measurements and carry out calculations including formulae.
- Good interpersonal skills - to listen and respond to instructions and questions clearly and logically.
- Is customer-focused and show a desire to deliver excellent customer service.

When will my apprenticeship start?
You will need to be available to commence your apprenticeship 7 th September 2026
Entry / eligibility requirements:
- You will need to be able to provide evidence of Maths and English qualifications at grade C/5 or above upon request - Please ensure you specify these grades in your CV/supporting statement. If you do not hold these qualifications already you must be willing to work towards completing functional skills level 2 in addition to the apprenticeship. If these certificates are not UK based please also provide the UK ENIC statement of comparability Statement of Comparabilityn
- You must be willing and able to start work anywhere within the Nottingham City boundary for 8am, as required by the organisation.
- Successful candidates must be committed to attend college in person at a location of NCC choosing to obtain the Warehouse level 2 apprenticeship.
- You will need to be a minimum of 16 years old by August . There is no upper age limit.
- You cannot hold a qualification of the same level and subject already.
- To show commitment to gaining a driving license before completion of the apprenticeship.
- Non-UK nationals must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years, and not resident for the purposes of education, to be eligible for this role.
