Job Title: API Engineer
Location: Telford (2 days per week on-site)
Contract: October - December 2025 (extensions likely)
Clearance: Must hold active SC Clearance

Overview:
We are looking for an experienced API Engineer to join an established delivery team. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable APIs while ensuring high quality through automated testing. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, contributing to the integration of systems and supporting delivery in an Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain APIs to support applications and services.
Ensure APIs are secure, scalable, and performant.
Build and maintain automated test scenarios to support CI/CD pipelines.
Collaborate with other teams to integrate APIs into broader solutions.
Monitor API performance, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Stay up to date with API and testing technologies, bringing best practices into the team.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in API design, development, and automated testing.
Strong knowledge of RESTful and SOAP APIs.
Proficiency in Java (Java 8+).
Experience with API testing and management tools (eg, Postman, JUnit, Mockito, Wiremock, BDD frameworks).
Solid understanding of CI/CD practices and automated testing.
Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desirable Technical Skills:
Spring Boot, Apache Camel.
BDD frameworks (eg, Cucumber).
Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
Serverless architecture knowledge.
Monitoring/logging tools (eg, ELK stack, Prometheus).
Linux Shell Scripting.
Experience with API gateways and proxies (eg, Kong, NGINX).
Approach & Methodologies:
RESTful API best practices.
Object-oriented programming and clean code principles.
Test-Driven Development (TDD).
Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) desirable.
Experience working with microservices architecture.
Knowledge of API security best practices.
