Antenatal and Newborn Screening Failsafe Officer

The Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) failsafe officer supports the antenatal and newborn screening co ordinator by collating and entering data for antenatal and newborn screening programmes, including infectious diseases in pregnancy, Down's syndrome screening, fetal anomaly screening, haemoglobinopathy screening, newborn infant physical examination, and newborn bloodspot screening. The failsafe officer identifies screening coverage of the eligible population, ensures safety of the programmes, and maintains audit trails to prevent missed opportunities.

The role involves:

  • Supporting the screening co ordinators in developing, maintaining and monitoring database systems for the ANNB programme;
  • Escalating any missed screening as a priority and ensuring compliance with National Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • Collating information for the Annual Screening Report, Quality Assurance failsafe visits, National Screening Committee Annual Report and other public health submissions;
  • Entering accurate and timely data into Cerner and NIPE S4N;
  • Preparing and attending meetings, seminars and training sessions for midwives and other professionals, and taking and distributing meeting minutes;
  • Undertaking general clerical duties such as photocopying and filing for the screening team;
  • Participating in annual appraisal processes with line managers;
  • Performing daily audits of all screening data, escalating any issues to the appropriate screening leads, and reporting newborn screening concerns to the Newborn Screening Co ordinator.

Working flexible and undertaking any other duties commensurate with the grade as required.

Person Specification
  • Educated to GCSE level - must include English and Maths (A-C).
  • Willing to undertake further training specific to the position.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
  • Experience using spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience using IT systems.
  • Experience working in a busy office/customer care environment.
  • Experience using Cerner and Viewpoint.

Salary: £30,630 to £32,346 per annum (incl. HCAS, pro rata).
