Anaesthetic Registrar - UPMC Waterford 
Location: UPMC Whitfield Hospital
Job type: Permanent
The Anaesthetic Registrar is a key member of the hospital's clinical team, overseeing care in the Operating Theatre, Cardiac Cath lab, Critical Care Unit, and other acute medical interventions, including emergency airway management, postoperative follow up, acute decompensation, fluid management, CPR, and acute pain management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Work effectively as a team member.
- Communicate clearly and professionally.
- Operate autonomously as required.
- Demonstrate flexibility in shift patterns and emergencies.
- Complete mandatory training: Fire, Radiation Safety, Infection Prevention, ACLS (biennial), BCLS (biennial), ICHGCP (biennial desirable), ICORG PI (triennial), Manual Handling (triennial).
- Provide anaesthetic services for inpatient and outpatient patients.
- Participate in departmental teaching, research, and out of hours roster.
- Engage in administrative responsibilities as directed by management.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement, safety processes, and the European Working Time Directive implementation.
- Supervise Resident Medical Officers and oversee their clinical care.
- Assist in resident selection, clinical audit, risk management, and data collection.
- Attend all code blue and INEWS calls.
- Maintain health & safety, infection prevention, information governance, medication management, professional standards, safeguarding, social responsibility, quality & safety, quality assurance, education, and research duties as outlined below.
- Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others.
- Co operate with UPMC to follow statutory regulations and departmental rules.
- Avoid intentional or reckless interference with safety systems.
- Follow UPMC policies and guidelines on infection prevention.
- Keep up to date with mandatory updates.
- Report breaches using UPMC mechanisms.
- Adhere to UPMC information governance policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of patient and employee data.
- Avoid unauthorized disclosure of information.
- Ensure accurate, up to date information and compliance with recording and monitoring schemes.
- Adhere to medication policies relevant to the role.
- Document and sign all medications pre , intra , and post surgical.
- Be accountable for all patients under anaesthetic care.
- Verify current medication on admission when required.
- Participate in statutory and mandatory training.
- Maintain high personal and professional standards.
- Engage in appraisal processes and personal development planning.
- Identify and report abuse following safeguarding awareness training.
- Support environmental initiatives in energy, water, transport, and waste.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams for JCI accreditation.
- Provide high standards of patient care during the working day.
- Attend management, review, and safety meetings as required.
- Engage in departmental educational meetings.
- Complete mandatory clinical and non clinical training (BLC, GCP, Fire safety, etc.).
- Participate in departmental e rounds and external conferences.
- Contribute to research projects within the department.
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Current Full Medical Council Registration.
- Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists desirable.
- Minimum 5 years' experience as Anaesthetic Registrar in an acute hospital.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
€70,276 - €82,756 per annum based on a 40 hour week.
