Job Description
Responsibilities
  • To utilise advanced assessment skills, knowledge and complex decision-making processes to manage patients presenting with spinal conditions. These patients may have many co-existing, diverse medical and neurological presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
  • To learn, develop and utilise skills often not considered part of a physiotherapist role, such as ordering and interpreting investigations and referral to other specialities etc. Maintenance of competency in these skills will need to be demonstrated and maintained.
  • To develop and deliver individualised and tailored patient management giving highly specialised advice and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To provide clinical leadership and highly specialist physiotherapy advice to the spinal teams, co-ordinate CPD activities and maintain a high standard of professional and clinical practice for self and all staff in the service.
  • To act as a source of expertise on the management of spinal conditions and provide advisory service to patients, physiotherapists, other health care professionals, GP's and Consultants. Work closely with referring GP's, providing support and acting as a triage gateway.
  • To continually monitor the quality of the service through clinical audits and utilise these to establish protocols and guidelines for development of new services.
  • Post-operative review of spinal patients.
  • Attendance at the multi-disciplinary meeting.
