The Role

• To develop, coordinate and evaluate the Children & Young People's Speech and Language Therapy School Age Eating Drinking and Swallowing Services across North or South Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) in line with the SLT Service objectives, Local and National Policy.


• To utilize highly specialist decision making skills to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.


• To provide advice, support, clinical supervision, training second opinions for SLTs working within a school age EDS role.


• To represent and promote the role of the Children & Young People's SLT Service in uni and multi professional/agency groups both locally and nationally.


• To be accountable for delivering a quality service and meeting SLT service targets and objectives for this area of responsibility.


• To be responsible for exercising good financial governance in the allocation of resources e.g. travel, using appropriate skill mix.

The working pattern for this role is day shift.

In this key role, you will

• All clinical decision making will be based on the Care Aims philosophy utilising the Care Aims model which will ensure that risk, impact and clinical need are articulated, outcomes evaluated through continuous reflection.


• Act as a highly specialist clinical resource within their area of responsibility regarding their specialism to optimise clinical care.


• Lead Speech and Language Therapy in service training for team and occasionally to the wider service when related to their specialism.


• To lead in the development and implementation of training to other professionals, qualified and unqualified staff, volunteers as required.


• Responsible for personal and professional development in line with Speech and Language Therapy supervision systems, PDP planning and KSF activities in order to meet the standards of the Health Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.


• Is actively involved in departmental mentoring and supervision to promote personal and service development and to fulfil the requirements for continuing professional development.

A full UK driving license is required for this post with access to own vehicle.

What You'll Bring

• Responsible for the development and management of a school age EDS service across a Health and Social Care Partnership taking into consideration Scottish Government guidance on service delivery models of universal, targeted and specialist interventions.


• Lead management group meetings for named SLTs working in school age EDS to look at local issues and ensure consistency in service delivery.


• Contribute to staff development needs and the development of initiatives to address service/locality priorities.


• Meet with the other School Age EDS Clinical Coordinator on a regular basis to ensure services are delivered in line with best practice leading to equity of access and provision for children, young people and families across NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL)


• Take a delegated lead on development of a particular objective or project in liaison with peers and reports to Line Manager and Professional Lead.


• Responsible for developing and maintaining productive multi agency relationships in the area of early intervention.


• Advise SLT Professional Lead and Line Manager as to service and development issues for this area of responsibility and suggest possible solutions.
