Advanced Healthcare Science Practitioner

With effect from 01 April 2026, NHS Scotland is reducing its full time working week from 37 to 36 hours per week, there will be no change in full time pay.
A permanent Advanced Healthcare Science Practitioner post has become available within the Genetic Service. Applicants should have an Honours Degree in genetics, molecular biology or relevant biological science or SVQ level 4 equivalent in an appropriate biological science. Evidence of experience in key genetic techniques is essential and preference will be given to appropriately skilled applicants with NHS experience. Evidence of supervisory and training experience is also desirable. The successful candidate will undertake a broad range of testing procedures on a variety of samples referred to the Service. The post-holder will generate and analyse genetic test results and consequently must work in a careful and meticulous manner and adhere to all laboratory standard operating procedures. You will work with Senior Clinical Scientists to develop and deliver genomic testing for a range of inherited and acquired disorders, in addition you will work closely with the Technical Team lead to direct the work of Assistants, Associates and Senior Practitioners to deliver the majority of practical work required for an effective Service.
Continued professional development and training will be actively encouraged to enable the successful applicant to achieve appropriate registration as a Healthcare Science Practitioner.
The Regional Genetic Service is a large friendly team of Technical, Scientific and Clinical staff who provide a first class service to patients and families from Tayside /NE Fife and elsewhere in Scotland. The Service offers modern, well equipped facilities situated within Ninewells Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably motivated applicant to further their career within a diagnostic Genetic Service.
