Job overview

We have restructured and appointed to two new posts within the pharmacy medicine team: Lead Pharmacist- medicine- operations and clinical effectiveness; Lead Pharmacist- medicine- education and Improvement. There is an exciting opportunity to join the respiratory pharmacy service as an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the respiratory pharmacy team and lead inpatient respiratory patient care on our bespoke-designed respiratory medicine ward and intermediate dependency respiratory care unit.

Main duties of the job

You will also provide directorate services to the outpatient specialties of allergy and immunology, supporting matters regarding medication storage, medication safety and formulary access to medicines.

We are looking for an experienced individual who ideally holds an independent prescribing qualification, but would be open to supporting the right candidate through this within the first 12 months of the post.

Person specification Qualifications

• Masters level degree in pharmacy
• Registered as a pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
• Registered as an independent prescriber with the GPhC
• MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
• Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society
• Member of the faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards) at Advanced Stage II

Experience

• Recent significant post-registration experience including prescription screening, medicines reconciliation and medicines information
• Recent significant experience of patient consultation
• Experienced clinical pharmacist at band 7 or band 8a who has covered a range of specialities including the designated specialist clinical area
• Experience of documenting pharmaceutical care issues in medical notes
• Experience of writing professional reports
• Experience of writing drug policies and treatment guidelines
• Experience of developing and reviewing patient group directions and shared care guidelines
• Evidence of having conducted and implemented the outcomes of a clinical audit
• Experience of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives
• Experience with high-cost and high-risk medicines management
• Experience as a personal tutor to staff groups
• Experience of leading projects including change management and service development
• Recent post-registration hospital experience, ideally in a teaching hospital and more than one hospital
• Experience of independent prescribing for a designated group of patients
• Experienced clinical pharmacist (band 8a or 8b)
• Experience of publishing pharmaceutical and/or educational materials
• Experience of drug expenditure analysis and reporting
• Experience of horizon scanning

Knowledge

• Advanced clinical knowledge of drugs and therapeutic trends within the designated specialist area
• Knowledge of NICE, HEE, NPSA guidance and local implementation
• Knowledge of UK healthcare systems and NHS changes
• Computer literacy with Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Familiar with teaching using visual aids
• Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
• Knowledge of electronic prescribing IT systems
• Knowledge of electronic prescribing and medicines administration IT systems
