Adult Educator - Early Learning and Care

Role Purpose
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality learning and assessment across the Early Learning and Care (ELC) programme within Donegal ETB's Further Education and Training (FET) Service.
The role involves curriculum delivery, assessment and marking, learner support, and compliance with Donegal Education and Training Board's Quality Assurance (QA) system and standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Delivery and Facilitation:
• Deliver 12 hours per week of direct tuition and learner support across specified ELC modules (e.g., QQI Level 5 and Level 6 certificates).
• Prepare, plan, and deliver interactive, inclusive, and adult-centred learning sessions.
• Integrate digital technology into learning via Donegal ETB's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) (e.g., MS Teams, Moodle).
Assessment and Quality Assurance:
• Implement assessment instruments (assignments, project briefs, learner records, practical skills demonstrations) aligned with QQI/Awarding Body standards.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback to adult learners.
• Participate fully in Donegal ETB's Internal Verification (IV) and External Authentication (EA) procedures.
Administration & Learner Support:
• Maintain accurate attendance, progression, and assessment records using the ETB Management Information System (PLSS).
• Support learners through work-placement preparation, reflective practice, and academic guidance.
• Identify and liaise with support services for learners requiring extra educational assistance.
Professional Development and Governance:
• Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities arranged by Donegal ETB.
• Attend subject department meetings, staff briefings, and QA moderation sessions as required.
The delivery of the associated duties (i.e. non-contact time) will be in line with the needs of the programme and overseen by the Programme Coordinator/Adult Education Officer.
The expected undertaking of associated work of 45 minutes (0.75 hour) for every contact hour timetabled for an Adult Educator is to provide for:
• Programme Development
• Pre-preparation for delivery
• Assessment of learners
• PLSS engagement
• Attendance at required PL&D events/seminars
• Involvement in communities of practice
• Participation in support groups e.g. H&S, quality assurance, active inclusion, communities of practice etc.
• Involvement in any other area(s) of delivery/support that may arise in relation to FET provision and support services
Essential Requirements
Citizenship and eligibility to compete for posts as described below:
• Candidates should note that eligibility to compete for posts is open to citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) or to non-EEA nationals with a valid work permit. The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union along with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Swiss citizens under EU agreements may also apply.
• Health and Character: Those under consideration for a position may at the discretion of the employer be required to complete a health and character declaration and a Garda Vetting form. References will be sought. Some posts may require special security clearance. In the event of potential conflicts of interest, candidates may not be considered for certain posts.
Qualifications
Essential:
- A relevant Level 7 or Level 8 degree in Early Years.
- Teaching Council registration OR a recognised Adult/FET Teaching Qualification (e.g., Level 8 Higher Diploma/Degree in Further/Adult Education).
Desirable:
Master's degree in Early Childhood Studies, Pedagogy, or Adult Education.
Experience
Essential:
• Minimum 2 years' practical experience working in an Early Learning and Care setting.
• Experience teaching, tutoring, or facilitating adult learners in a Further Education and Training (FET) context.
Desirable:
• Experience designing QQI Level 5 & 6 ELC assessment briefs.
• Prior involvement in ETB Internal Verification processes.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
• Understanding of national frameworks (Aistear, Síolta, and the First 5 strategy).
• Excellent learning facilitation and classroom management skills.
• Proficient in IT and VLE systems (MS Office 365, MS Teams, Excel, online registers).
Desirable:
• Strong familiarity with QQI programmes and awards standards.
Personal Attributes
• Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Supportive, empathetic approach to adult education.
• High organisational skills and ability to meet QA deadlines.
