Job Description
Role Overview

Markel Group is a Fortune 500 insurance and reinsurance holding company that operates worldwide. In this role you will have a meaningful impact on the strategic underwriting decisions our business makes. The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced actuarial analyses based upon generally accepted actuarial principles and to give guidance and support to junior Actuaries. The completed analyses will be used by internal stakeholders for data based decision making and may relate to pricing, reserving, reinsurance, corporate reporting or combinations of these areas. Strong communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strong technical and operational support to the leader of the product team supporting the specified underwriting divisions.
  • Manage resources, prioritise work for yourself and the team, and review key deliverables.
  • Maintain strong relations with underwriting teams within the specified divisions, providing support in reserving and pricing activities.
  • Focus primarily on reserving while also handling large account pricing, pricing tool validation, business planning and capital model parameterisation.
  • Line manage a junior actuarial student, if applicable.
  • Own various core processes to produce deliverables for external purposes.
  • Provide support to the wider Markel International Actuarial team.
Qualifications
  • Proven ability to manage and engage senior stakeholders and create effective relationships with stakeholders including Finance, Underwriting, Capital, Reinsurance, Claims and others.
  • Experience engaging with senior underwriters to deliver results and running technical projects that produce analyses for portfolio management.
  • Experience presenting at formal meetings with senior management.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of actuarial disciplines related to both pricing and reserving fields.
  • Experience in the actuarial elements of business planning and parameterisation of underwriting and reserve risk.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work within and influence a team, prioritising workloads for yourself and the team.
  • Presence in the London office at least two days a week.
