Job Description

We are looking for an Activity Coordinator to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Bury (Dunes) based on Lower West Ward.

This role will be working full-time days, 40 hours per week, from 7am to 7pm with alternative weekends included.

Lower West ward is a low secure (LSU) service for women who are deaf and hearing. The ideal candidate will have previous knowledge of deaf culture and environments and hold British Sign Language (BSL) certificates at Signature level 2 or above. Cygnet also provides BSL training up to level 2 for people who have no signing knowledge or skills and are interested in the post.

The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating people in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

We are seeking an academically strong candidate to support and enhance the care of patients at the service by assisting the Occupational Therapy team.

Main duties of the job
  • Experience and/or a passion for working in healthcare and with learning disabilities.
  • Some knowledge of Occupational Therapy.
  • A creative flair and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • An awareness of recovery approaches and social inclusion (desirable).
  • Risk management and observation skills.
  • To document on the Cygnet system what has been offered/declined and what has been achieved.
  • To devise programmes and activity tables for the week ahead.

Your Day-to-Day
  • Encourage patients to access and become involved in a variety of activities while maintaining any pre existing hobbies.
  • Plan and implement therapy programmes whilst ensuring appropriate materials are obtained.
  • Contribute ideas, facilitate events and activities in a safe manner on and off the ward.
