Job Description

Do you have a background in podiatry or quality assurance within education and training? The Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) is emarking an a new Quality Assurance (QA) Programme that will require the proficiency of registered podiatrists, individuals with experience in the organisation of a podiatry school, and lay persons with knowledge of quality assurance principles.

As part of the RCPod's work, the Education team is responsible for the accreditation of pre-registration courses leading to degrees in podiatry that are registrable by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and the academic component of training for post-registration courses eg, podiatric surgery. Our reviewers will provide specialist input and help us to make judgements about how organisations and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses, which deliver podiatry education and training, meet our standards. They will also contribute to the governance process surrounding the provision of CPD content to maintain high quality and retain relevance of material.

Applicants must fall within at least one of the following categories:

  • Clinical academic in podiatry (this person would serve as the Team Leader)
  • Podiatrist (not based within a podiatry school)
  • Recent podiatry graduate (up to 2 years recent)
  • Lay (a non-podiatrist; can have QA experience from elsewhere; can have experience of any undergraduate allied health or apprentice education; must provide an external perspective to our quality activities and represent all the non-podiatrist persons).

We would encourage applications from those with experience of teaching and assessment.

The role of an Accreditation Reviewer is varied. However, it is likely that those successful will be involved in a range of our quality assurance activities over a 12-month period. Involvement will include observations and visits to one of the 16 podiatry schools across the UK and Ireland, interviews with students, and heavy scrutiny of various sources of information. Accreditation Reviewers will help the Education Team to reach conclusions about the quality of podiatry education and CPD opportunities. Applicants must be able to attend face-to-face meetings.

We offer an honorarium daily fee of £370; this is inclusive of reading time. Team leaders will receive an added £50 per quality activity. We will also cover reasonable expenses.
