Job Description

Accounting Technician (Schools)
Band C: £26,824 to £29,540 per annum pro rata
30 hours per week - Term time + 2 weeks (41 weeks per year)
Fixed term / secondment - 12 months

Solihull Council are looking for an Accounting Technician to join our Schools Finance team, supporting schools across the borough with high-quality financial advice and transaction support.

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who is part AAT qualified and looking to take the next step in their career. You will enjoy problem-solving and thrive upon delivering a strong customer-focused service in a busy financial environment.

Working as part of the Schools Finance team, you will:

  • Provide helpdesk-style financial support to schools across the borough
  • Process invoices and prepare journals within the Council's financial systems
  • Produce financial monitoring statements and reports
  • Reconcile financial data and quality-check information
  • Investigate and respond to customer queries with professionalism and accuracy
  • Provide guidance on Council financial procedures and regulations

You'll work closely with schools, internal colleagues, and other stakeholders, helping to maintain strong relationships and ensuring financial processes are delivered efficiently and accurately.

You will have:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A-C / 9-4, including Maths and English
  • Part qualified AAT (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a financial or administrative environment
  • Confident working knowledge of Excel and financial systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Experience of public sector finance or knowledge of local authority accounting is desirable but not essential.
