Job Description:

CORE POWER is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Manager with at least 8 years of experience to join our dynamic Finance Team. Based in our brand-new offices in Chiswick Park, you will manage and oversee the accounting team, and work closely with the Financial Controller and colleagues across our offices in London, Washington, DC, and Tokyo.

The Finance Team is a key pillar of CORE POWER's market and stakeholder engagement, providing financial understanding and informing business decisions. In this role, you will lead the production of statutory and management reporting, prepare consolidated budgets and tax returns, and establish robust financial processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision

  • Line manage the UK and US accountants
  • Coach and develop the team to provide an effective accounting service

Accounting

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting team including:

  • Consolidation of the statutory entities
  • Ownership of the trial balance and month and end-year processes, including month end journals, bank & other reconciliations
  • Take leadership on key accounting activities such as:
  • Quarterly consolidation
  • Valuation and accounting for share options and warrants, including management of the Black & Scholes model
  • Right-of-use assets
  • Establish and enforce robust accounting methodology.

Accounting System

  • Assess the current accounting system for the group and, if appropriate, recommend improvements.

Financial Reporting

  • Preparation of annual statutory financial statements for Core Power, consolidating the UK, US and Japanese entities.
  • Liaison with auditors (E&Y) and resolution of audit queries.
  • Preparation of quarterly abbreviated financial statements for Core Power, consolidating the UK, US and Japanese entities.

Management Reporting

  • Monitor and analyse accounting and other relevant data to prepare management accounts and variance analysis, both in absolute terms and against budgets (group and departments).
  • Provide ad-hoc management information to department leads in the performance of their department.

Taxation

  • Preparation of annual direct tax returns (corporation tax) and quarterly indirect tax returns (VAT) across the group.
  • Liaison with tax advisers.

Invoicing

  • Determination of charge-out rates for monthly invoices, including compliance with US DoE criteria.

Payments

  • Ensure payments are prepared for authorisation on a weekly basis.

Liaison

  • Regular liaison with the Financial Controller to assist, where required, on:
  • Treasury & term deposits
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Payroll and other payment approvals
  • Internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Stand in for the Financial Controller during absences.
  • Provide advice to the Chief Financial Officer

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Chartered accountant (ACA or equivalent)

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience, of which at least 5 years is post-qualification accounting experience.
  • Proven working experience as Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor or Finance Manager
  • Experience with international accounting standards.
  • Previous experience in a multi-entity, international environment.

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous experience working with Xero accounting software, is preferable
  • Strong understanding of international accounting standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and prepare financial reports.
  • Good knowledge of financial laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrates an excellent work ethic and practices fairness.
  • Ability to work on multiple accounting tasks.
