Job Description

About the Role As an Accounting Apprentice, you will support day-to-day accounting and administrative tasks while developing your knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and financial accounts.

This role offers exposure to a wide range of clients, including sole traders and limited companies, giving you valuable real-world experience from the outset.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • General administrative support within the accounts function
  • Sending reminders for VAT and limited company deadlines and following up on required documentation via phone, email, and letter
  • Organising and maintaining invoices and receipts
  • Entering sales invoices, purchase invoices, and receipts into accounting software
  • Maintaining accurate client files and liaising directly with clients
  • Completing cashbooks using bank statements and reconciling them to zero
  • Compiling and submitting VAT returns
  • Preparing trial balances for financial accounts for sole traders and limited companies
  • Dealing with HMRC and responding to queries
  • Answering client queries via telephone and email
  • Ensuring month-end planning is completed and deadlines are met for VAT returns, financial accounts, and tax returns
  • Credit control duties, including contacting clients regarding outstanding balances, receiving payments, and allocating funds on the system
Training and Qualifications
  • Working towards an AAT Level 2 or Level 3 Accounting qualification
  • Full on-the-job training and structured learning support provided
Skills and Personal Qualities
  • Good organisational and administrative skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable working with numbers and financial data
  • Basic IT skills and willingness to learn accounting software
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload
  • Reliable, professional, and eager to learn
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
