Job Description

The Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabe Aadiziwin Nakiigamig is seeking four (4) Anishinaabemaat Childcare Providers to work within Mooshkin Anishinaabemowin Gamig (MAG), an immersion home-based childcare program. The Anishinaabemaat Childcare Provider is responsible for the supervision, care, and overall well being of infants, toddlers, and children within each MAG location. The successful candidate will support the delivery of planned curriculum and daily program activities, including structured learning opportunities and supervised free play within designated programming areas. Working within an Anishinaabemowin language immersion environment, the Childcare Provider will guide and encourage the physical, social, emotional, creative, and cognitive development of children through culturally grounded programming, positive interaction, and age appropriate activities that reflect Anishinaabe values, language, and ways of learning.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Foster the unique strengths, interests, and individuality of each infant, toddler, and child by supporting their natural curiosity and development through play based learning and exploration within an Anishinaabe cultural and language immersion environment.
  2. Implement culturally relevant Anishinaabe Aadiziwin pedagogical approaches by planning, developing, and delivering daily Anishinaabemowin language immersion curriculum and educational programming. Facilitate engaging indoor activities, cultural teachings, and outdoor experiences, including land based learning opportunities.
  3. Promote and support the holistic development of infants, toddlers, and children by addressing their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, cultural, and language development needs while ensuring their health, safety, and well being.
  4. Create a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that encourages child led exploration and educator supported experiences. Support the development of communication skills, self regulation, positive behaviors, emotional resilience, and healthy social interactions.
  5. Maintain effective and ongoing communication with parents and caregivers by providing regular updates on children's development, achievements, milestones, and well being. Encourage family participation in cultural programming, activities, and events, and share Anishinaabemowin language resources to support continued learning within the home.
  6. Where applicable, deliver early childhood education programming for preschool aged children (4-5 years) through hands on, play based learning experiences that support social emotional development and foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, language, science, the arts, health, and physical education, consistent with Ontario early learning frameworks.
  7. Maintain accurate and up to date records of children's daily activities, observations, developmental progress, and significant events through daily journals and program documentation.
  8. Provide routine caregiving and personal care support, including diapering, toileting assistance, changing clothing, meal and snack support, and attending to the daily needs of infants, toddlers, and children in a respectful, safe, and nurturing manner.
REQUIREMENTS
  1. Must successfully complete and maintain satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) as a condition of employment.
  2. Ability to communicate in Anishinaabemowin; fluency considered a strong asset.
  3. Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. Relevant certifications and training related to child development, child safety, early learning, or childcare are considered assets. Practical experience working in a childcare setting and / or participation in Anishinaabemowin immersion training will be considered.
  5. Preference will be given to applicants who possess a diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and are registered, or eligible to register, with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of the history, culture, language, and traditions of the Three Fires Confederacy and the community of Wiikwemkoong.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of the social, historical, and intergenerational factors that impact First Nations communities, including the legacy of residential schools, intergenerational trauma, addictions, family dynamics, and other factors that influence individual, family, and community well being.
  8. Strong knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, values, and language.
  9. Demonstrated respect for and commitment to supporting First Nations cultures, teachings, protocols, and community values.
  10. Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification is required, or a willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  11. Possession of a valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and reliable access to a vehicle is an asset.

Salary: Grade (5) Step (1) ($65,009.00) Location: (On site)
