Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident, well organised individual to join the Edinburgh Flow and Discharge Hub, based at the Astley Ainslie Hospital. We are seeking 2 Patient Flow Co ordinators (36 hours per week) to support safe, effective patient flow and discharge across hospitals within Lothian.

You will be part of a small but busy team of seven staff, working collaboratively to ensure the smooth progression of patients through their care pathways. Key responsibilities include identifying patients suitable for discharge pathways, applying delayed discharge coding, and supporting the efficient allocation of appropriate beds within EHSCP. Full training will be provided.

Working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, you will deliver a comprehensive range of administrative duties to support the department's daily operational demands. You should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, able to extract and summarise data for time sensitive statistical reporting, and confident communicating with a range of colleagues and services. The ability to use your own initiative, work under pressure, and meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision is essential.

Applicants should be educated to HNC/HND level or possess equivalent relevant experience, ideally within an NHS environment. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office packages is essential.

This is a 36 hour, office based post worked over five days.
