About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join NHS Lothian's Primary Care Pharmacy Central Services team as a Band 7 Pharmacy Technician Team Manager. This offers a unique chance to step into a senior leadership role, managing a team of pharmacy professionals and support staff and supporting the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective prescribing support services across general practices in Lothian. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering technical aspects of medicines management, supporting the implementation of pharmacotherapy services, and contributing to strategic service development. This is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience at a senior level and make a meaningful impact in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

As the Pharmacy Technician Team Manager, you will:

  • Provide professional leadership and guidance to the lead pharmacy technicians, supporting their development and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery across all areas.
  • Develop and maintain prescribing support software and ensure effective use of decision support tools.
  • Provide technical leadership for the safe handling of unlicensed medicines and the management of medicine supply chain enquiries.
  • Contribute to clinical governance through audit, risk management, and the development of SOPs and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with GPs, practice teams, and community pharmacists to promote safe, effective, and economical use of medicines.
  • Support education and training initiatives for pharmacy staff and wider primary care teams.
Why Join Us?
  • A valuable opportunity to gain senior leadership experience in a Band 7 role.
  • Supportive mentorship and professional development.
  • A collaborative and innovative working environment across NHS Lothian.
  • Access to NHS benefits, including pension scheme and staff wellbeing resources.
About you
  • A registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Experienced in technical pharmacy services, ideally within a primary care setting and holds an HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent experience. However, individuals who do not possess this qualification but can demonstrate equivalent professional experience may also be considered. In such instances, a Mapping Assessment Form must be completed and submitted as part of the application process. Applicants are advised to contact us in advance for further guidance on the completion and submission of this documentation.
  • Skilled in managing teams, service delivery, and change implementation.
  • Confident in using prescribing data systems and digital tools to support decision making.
  • Knowledgeable in medicines management, prescribing systems, and NHS governance frameworks.
