Job Description

Do you wish to be part of the solution? Then this is the job for you!

Are you a motivated and enthusiastic audiologist with a passion for paediatric care? We are looking for an experienced professional to join our dedicated paediatric audiology team in a permanent full time Band 6 role. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy yet supportive service that prides itself on improvement and looking forwards.

As a key member of our team, you will bring strong knowledge and hands on experience in hearing aid work, supporting the Lead Healthcare Scientist in Habilitation and contributing to the ongoing development of our service. Working within our purpose built Children's Hospital, located in the beautiful and historic city of Edinburgh, you will collaborate with an established group of paediatric audiologists and assistant staff.

Your clinical work will involve providing high level care through face to face appointments at both the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and Lauriston Hospital.

You will deliver diagnostic assessments for children from birth to 18 years of age, using a wide range of techniques including Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Performance Audiometry, Pure Tone Audiometry, TEOAE testing, Otoscopy, and Tympanometry.

You will also play a vital role in hearing aid fittings for children of all ages, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to our national microtia service, including involvement in working within clinics with implantable hearing devices.

Beyond clinical duties, this role offers the chance to shape the future of our service. You will participate in quality improvement activities, audits, and the creation and implementation of SOPs to support new and enhanced service offerings. A clear vision for service development and continuous improvement is highly valued, as these principles sit at the heart of our forward looking paediatric audiology provision at NHS Lothian.

Our clinics run Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, with the expectation of working 37 hours within these times. NHS Scotland is currently progressing toward a reduced 36 hour working week by 2026, without any impact on salary.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Please note: we anticipate a high level of interest in this position and may close the vacancy early once a sufficient amount of applications are received. Therefore, please make sure you complete and submit your application at an early stage.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service. Further information on what NHS Scotland Boards are required to do to check this as well as what your responsibilities include can be found in the further information for this vacancy.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application-but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It's fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don't let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you-not an AI tool.
