Responsibilities
  • Work across all NHS Lothian sites with a base in the Edinburgh Bio Quarter to support the POCT Manager with an increasing number and widening scope of POCT activities across Lothian.
  • Provide a link between the POCT manager, the POCT team and service users from a technical, scientific and service improvement perspective.
  • Support governance and development of Point of Care Testing (POCT) across Primary and Secondary care sites.
  • Operate within a range of equipment including Biochemistry (Glucose/Ketone, HbA1c), Virology Respiratory Rapid tests (Cepheid, Liat), Haematology Viscoelastic testing (Rotem) and emerging areas such as genetic testing.
  • Collaborate on continuous service improvement and delivery of POCT services.
  • Ensure HCPC registration and driving licence requirements are fulfilled for multisite work.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Band 6 Biomedical Scientist (HCPC registered) with suitability for the role of Point of Care Testing (POCT) Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
  • Proven experience to work across multiple NHS Lothian sites, including hospital and community settings.
  • Essential: HCPC registration and a driving licence for multisite work; failure to note this on the application form could result in disqualification from shortlisting.
  • For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay scales are as follows: up to 12 months - 75% of the pay band maximum; more than one but less than two years - 70%; more than two but less than three years - 65%; more than three years - 60% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
