Job Advert: Breastfeeding Support Midwife (Band 6)

The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland.

The post-holders will work with a project team within Maternal and Infant Nutrition (MIN) hosted in Public Health and Health Policy. The Maternal and Infant Nutrition team currently works with frontline staff across Neonatal, Maternity, Family Nursing, and Health Visiting services to enhance their skills and knowledge around infant feeding.

The award-nominated Delivering Early Breastfeeding Support (DEBS) project is expanding across NHS Lothian. This project has successfully reduced breastfeeding drop-off at 6-8 weeks by providing support during the antenatal and early postnatal periods across West Lothian. We are now looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable midwives or nurses to use quality improvement methodology to replicate the project in new areas in East Lothian, Midlothian, and the City of Edinburgh.

Positions Available:
  • Project Midwife/Nurse - Delivering Early Breastfeeding Support (Band 6)

Tenure: 2 posts: 37 hrs fixed term for 3 years; 26 hrs fixed term for 3 years. Each post requires working one Saturday every 4 weeks for 4 hours.

The project team will operate within RIE and community sites across Edinburgh, East Lothian, and Midlothian, so travel flexibility is essential.

  • West Lothian Post: 1 post: 37.5 hrs fixed term for 3 years, based at Stoneyburn Health Centre, working across St John's hospital and community sites. Occasional Saturday work for 4 hours may be required.
