2 FULLY FUNDED PhD STUDENTSHIPS - ECONOMICS OF DIAGNOSTICS IN AFRICA
LSE Health, London School of Economics and Political Science
LSE Health is recruiting two PhD researchers to join AHEaD (African Health, Economics and Diagnostics), a Wellcome-funded programme examining the health and economic impact of point-of-care diagnostics across Africa. Successful candidates will be embedded within the AHEaD research team, pursuing doctoral work on themes including diagnostic supply chains, health technology assessment, market access, and financing - with genuine opportunities to influence policy and practice.
The studentships are fully funded for four years, covering tuition fees for home and overseas students, with additional support for fieldwork and travel to international partner institutions. Candidates will be based at LSE in London, with regular travel to African partner settings.
We welcome applications from candidates worldwide. We are especially keen to hear from those with experience of African health systems, and French language proficiency is a plus given our partner contexts in francophone West Africa.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA- Master's degree in economics, health economics, or political economy (minimum 65% average; dissertation mark of at least 65%)
- Strong analytical training in economic theory and/or applied policy analysis
- Experience working with quantitative or policy-relevant data
- Experience working in African health systems (particularly Senegal, Ethiopia, or comparable settings)
- French language proficiency
- Background in health technology assessment, economic evaluation, or applied econometrics
To apply, candidates should submit an application to the MPhil/PhD in Health Policy at LSE, clearly indicating 'Economics of Diagnostics: AHEaD', along with a research proposal of up to 1,000 words.
