- 1:1 support for a male pupil with learning difficulties
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a male pupil with learning difficulties across the school day. You will help him follow routines, stay engaged in lessons, access learning at the right level, and build confidence, while feeding back clearly to the class teacher and SENCO. SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs, and schools are expected to use a graduated approach to identify needs, put support in place, and review impact.
The Candidate:You are calm, patient, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You understand that effective 1:1 support is about being reliable, observant, and responsive throughout the day. This role would suit a graduate who wants practical school-based SEN experience in a primary setting before progressing into teaching or psychology related training. Primary school work also gives valuable exposure to children's educational, social, and emotional development.
Requirements- Degree - A 2:2 or above in any psychology.
- Communication - Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
- Enhanced DBS - Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Desire to work in education/with children - Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Career Goals - A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.
This primary school in Wolverhampton offers the chance to build valuable one to one SEN experience in a setting where structure, patience, and consistent support matter. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO in a role that gives you direct exposure to day to day SEND provision, practical classroom strategies, and the kind of personalised support that can make a real difference over an academic year. National Careers describes SEN support roles as working closely with teachers to help children with additional needs access learning effectively.
