Youth Justice Worker - HMP Werrington (Ash Bank Rd, Werrington, Stoke-on-Trent ST9 0DX). Duties involve safeguarding and supporting children and young people in custody, maintaining security, providing day to day care, and delivering interventions as required.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the safety and security of children and young people within the institution.
- Provide practical support, including oversight of safe movement around the site.
- Intervene when necessary, de escalate behaviours, and apply conflict resolution techniques.
- Collaborate with families or carers and other professionals to agree and implement interventions or referrals.
- Maintain accurate records and attend regular supervision sessions.
- Support youth in developing skills and behaviours that will help them build a better future.
- Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Min. 18 years old at commencement of employment.
- Pass medical and fitness assessment, eyesight and hearing standards.
- Suitably fit for a physically active role.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Commitment to high standards of care and service.
- Empathy, understanding and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to identify and assess complex needs.
- Capability to handle interventions, de escalate and apply conflict resolution.
- Must hold a DBS check and a Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
- National driver licence and own transport may be beneficial; not essential.
- Freedom of speech and language: full proficiency in English required; Welsh language may be required if specified for Wales.
Annual salary reflects weekly hours:
- 37 hours a week = £34,928 a year
- 39 hours a week = £36,816 a year
- 41 hours a week = £39,334 a year

Successful completion of a 12 month probationary period offers the opportunity to undertake a Level 4 Qualification focussed on working with children and young people in custody, leading to potential advancement to a band 4 Specialist role.
