Job Description
Making A Difference as a Youth Justice Officer in St Helens Youth Justice Service - Temporary to end March 2027

As a Youth Justice Officer you will manage a caseload of children from diverse backgrounds. You will work innovatively with them, engaging their families and other professionals to assess, develop and deliver interventions that reduce the impact of crime on individuals, families and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with young people with complex and challenging needs, build trusting relationships, and deliver interventions to encourage behaviour change and prevent further involvement with the Criminal Justice System.
  • Apply safeguarding procedures and work with young people across varying levels of need.
  • Collaborate with a range of professionals and services, adapt to changing situations, and build strong working relationships.
  • Prioritise workload, maintain accurate case records and use relevant data recording systems.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Professional qualification relevant to working with children.
  • Experience working directly with children and families, assessing needs, writing reports, planning interventions, and reviewing supervision effectiveness.
  • Experience in a multi agency criminal justice setting is preferable.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable, creative and genuinely committed to improving life chances for young people.
