Worcester City Councils Community Safety Team work together to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Worcester City, working out within the community.
The team responds to reports of youth related anti-social behaviour across Worcester. Their aim is to engage with the young people involved and divert them away from their ASB into other purposeful activities.
The Youth Intervention Team has an opportunity for a Youth Intervention Officers to join our successful and innovative team working with young people under 18 on the streets of Worcester.
The successful applicant will have good communication skills and a commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of young people, with the overall aim of preventing anti-social behaviour.
You will be part of a rota which will provide pro-active and reactive engagement for young people over 7 days which will include some evenings. Each session could last for approximately 1 and a half hours, but principally early/late evenings and weekends. When the need arises, the sessions may vary in time.
Training will be provided where appropriate.
Responsibilities- To provide a mediation service between Young People, Police and Communities in targeted hot spot areas.
- To work in a productive and proactive way to reduce anti-social behaviour and divert young people into more appropriate leisure time activities.
- To deliver consequence and other youth specific training and/or group sessions in educational settings.
- The post will mainly operate 'out of office hours' working, and on occasion the postholder may experience confrontational situations.
- Educated to NVQ level 3 or appropriate work experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate with good keyboard skills
- Good time management and personal organisation skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to use initiative to respond to problems and unexpected situations
- Experience of producing meeting and project documentations
- Experience of working in community engagement/Safety/Youth or a related field
- Experience of working in a busy customer focussed environment
- A current full and valid UK driving license
- Able to work unsociable hours, on an ad hoc basis
- To be able to problem solve in response to community and individual need.
