Job Title: Youth Engagement Coordinator
Department: Children's Services
Service: Youth Justice Service (Integrated Children's Commissioning & Youth Services)
Grade: PO4
Reports to: Service Manager - Engagement

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Youth Engagement Coordinator to lead a team delivering targeted early intervention and prevention services for children, young people and families.

This role sits within the Youth Justice Service and plays a key part in preventing escalation into offending, exploitation, homelessness and family breakdown. You will oversee the delivery of high-quality interventions, ensuring young people are supported to achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management
  • Manage and supervise a team of Prevention Officers and Sessional Youth Engagement Workers
  • Oversee workload allocation, performance management, and staff development
  • Provide reflective supervision, coaching and support to practitioners
  • Participate in on-call arrangements and provide leadership outside standard hours
Service Delivery & Practice Oversight
  • Lead on complex and high-risk cases, acting as Lead Professional where required
  • Ensure high-quality assessment, planning and intervention delivery
  • Promote strength-based and systemic approaches to working with families
  • Ensure all interventions are outcome-focused and regularly reviewed
Safeguarding & Risk Management
  • Assess and manage risk relating to exploitation, serious youth violence, family breakdown and other vulnerabilities
  • Make informed professional decisions within safeguarding and legal frameworks
  • Ensure appropriate referrals and escalation where necessary
  • Act as an Appropriate Adult (PACE) when required
Multi-Agency Working
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with key agencies including Social Care, Education, Police, Health, Probation and voluntary organisations
  • Represent the Youth Justice Service at multi-agency meetings
  • Develop and maintain effective joint working protocols
Quality Assurance & Performance
  • Monitor the quality and impact of interventions and ensure accurate case recording
  • Contribute to performance reporting and service improvement
  • Support the management of external funding, including monitoring spend and reporting to funders
Innovation & Development
  • Contribute to the development of innovative and responsive service delivery
  • Support joint training and shared learning across partner agencies
  • Stay up to date with legislation, policy and best practice
About You Essential Experience
  • Significant experience working with vulnerable children, young people and families
  • Experience managing complex cases involving risk, safeguarding and multi-agency coordination
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity (or strong evidence of stepping up into leadership)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across services as a Lead Professional
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and youth justice frameworks
  • Experience of systemic and whole-family approaches
  • Skilled in risk assessment, decision-making and case management
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
Qualifications
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Social Work, Youth Justice, Education, Probation, Health)
    or equivalent experience with relevant professional accreditation
Additional Information
  • The role requires flexibility, including evenings and weekends
  • Travel across the borough is required
