Job Description
Year 6 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you looking to build primary school experience before teacher training or educational psychology? Could you help Year 6 pupils prepare confidently for SATs through focused academic support and clear encouragement?

  • Year 6 Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • September 2026 - July 2027
  • £90 - £110 per day
  • 'Good' primary school, Wolverhampton
  • Prepare Year 6 pupils for SATs examinations
The Role

Support Year 6 pupils as they prepare for KS2 SATs in reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and Maths. You will deliver 1:1 and small-group support, reinforce classwork, help pupils build confidence, and support revision through targeted intervention. KS2 tests in 2026 are scheduled for 11 to 14 May, so schools typically place strong emphasis on structured preparation and closing gaps in attainment.

The Candidate

You are organised, positive, and able to explain ideas clearly in a way that pupils understand. You want to build relevant classroom experience, work closely with Year 6 pupils, and play a direct role in helping them feel ready for the demands of their final primary assessments.

Requirements
  • Degree - A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication - Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS - Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children - Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children - Any relevant experience such as tutoring, mentoring, volunteering or school-based support is desirable but not essential.
The School

This 'Good' primary school in Wolverhampton has clear routines, supportive leadership, and a strong focus on pupil progress. The Year 6 team works collaboratively and gives graduates practical guidance, shared resources, and meaningful responsibility. It is a strong setting for anyone who wants hands on experience of upper KS2 teaching, intervention, and SATs preparation in a well run school. National guidance confirms that KS2 tests are statutory at the end of Year 6 and help schools identify where pupils may need additional support.
