Workplace Design Standards Manager
Contract: Until 31 March 2025 (possible extension)
Location: Any UK hub (excluding London), 3 days onsite/week
Preferred Hubs: Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff, Glasgow, Newcastle
Rate: Up to £500/day (umbrella)
IR35: In scope
Clearance: BPSS
Overview
Strategic role focused on maintaining and enhancing design quality across a large portfolio of workplace and public-facing projects. This is not a hands-on design position, but one centred on assurance, policy, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee design assurance across up to 300 active projects

Ensure compliance with relevant standards (eg, BS8300)

Develop and maintain workplace design standards and guidance

Lead post-occupancy evaluations and drive continuous improvement

Advise on design strategy, cost, and feasibility

Collaborate across all RIBA stages with stakeholders and contractors
Essential Skills
-
Background in architecture or interior design (ideally commercial/retail)

Proven experience with large-scale workplace or public service environments

Strong understanding of inclusive design, accessibility, and UK regulations

Skilled communicator with stakeholder engagement experience

Familiar with RIBA processes and standard development
Desirable

Degree or qualification in architecture/project management

Experience in complex estates (eg, healthcare, education)
