Job Description

A Wood-Shop Operative is responsible for assisting in the production of high-quality wooden frames & assemblies, for use in glass fibre panel manufacture.

This role involves working with wooden materials, operating machinery, assembling components, and ensuring quality control throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Woodworking & Joinery: Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood components according to specifications; Use hand tools and power tools such as saws, drills, sanders, and routers; Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
  • Machine Operation: Operate woodworking machinery, including panel saws, chop saws, planers, routers, and edgers; Maintain and clean workshop machinery to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Assembly & Finishing: Assemble wooden structures, frames, and other joinery products; Perform finishing tasks such as sanding.
  • Quality Control: Inspect materials and finished products for accuracy, durability, and quality standards; Identify and report any defects or inconsistencies in workmanship.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Follow workplace safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); Keep the workshop clean, organised, and free of hazards.
  • General Duties: Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting wood materials; Work as part of a team to meet production deadlines and targets.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Basic woodworking and joinery skills (experience preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Proficiency with woodworking tools and machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements.
  • Good physical fitness, as the role involves lifting and manual labour.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent).
  • Experience in a Wood-Shop, carpentry, or manufacturing environment.
