Windows 11 3rd Line Network Engineer - 6 month FTC!
Salary: £46,168 - £52, 809 (annually)
Opportunity: 6 month Fixed Term Contract
Working Pattern: 3 days a week on-site,travel across East & West Midlands will be required
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, shift patterns and will require on call work (inc. Bank Holidays).

Our client, a leading organisation in the Public Sector, is seeking a passionate and skilled Windows 11 3rd Line Network Engineer to join their dynamic Digital team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in delivering top-notch IT and Telephony services across the East & West Midlands.
What You'll Do:
As a 3rd Line Network Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and enhancing the organisation's IT network infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing ongoing support, maintenance, and development of network systems.
- Collaborating with vendors and partners to ensure optimal service availability.
- Leading the troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Designing and implementing network solutions for both existing installations and new sites.
- Monitoring network performance to maintain maximum efficiency.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and engineering colleagues to finalise migration readiness plans, including hardware assessments and upgrade paths.
- Coordinate pilot testing and staged rollout of Windows 11 across the organisations estate, ensuring scalability and minimal service interruption.
- Attend all Windows 11 related project meetings and collaborate with project managers, the service providers and other technical leads.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive migration checklist including backup procedures, deployment sequences, rollback protocols, and compliance checks.
- Ensure software and application compatibility through rigorous testing and vendor engagements.
- Design communication strategies and support documentation tailored to DHU staff, including FAQs, training guides, and update bulletins.
- Monitor post-migration device health and performance, leveraging analytics to inform ongoing optimization and support.
- Monitor and report migration progress per site or as requested, using documentation, dashboards and field input to track coverage, gaps, and performance impact.
- Capture feedback from call centre agents regarding usability, accessibility, and workflow alignment post-migration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the deployment of Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and VPNs.
- Conduct hardware and software upgrades, security configurations, and patching.
- Deliver 3rd line support to the Service Management team.
- Lead strategic infrastructure projects aligned with the organisation's digital strategy.
What You Bring:
Education & Qualifications:
- Networking qualifications (CCNA, CCNP, JNCIP) are essential.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in IT or relevant experience.
- Full UK Driving License and access to a vehicle.
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven experience in workload planning and delivering key targets.
- Willing and able to pass knowledge on and mentor other team members.
- Able to travel between sites in order to provide IT services, specifically ability to drive.
- A willingness to identify opportunities for service improvements and cost reductions.
- Able to overcome obstacles and constraints.
- Customer oriented, confident, reliable and approachable.
- Able to carry and lift basic PC equipment for installations.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in network engineering.
- Experience with Windows 11.
- Proficient in configuring Juniper, Aruba devices, and Cisco Firewalls.
- Knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, LAN, VLAN, DHCP, and DNS.
- Understanding of copper and fibre networking.
- Experience of planning and installing LAN/WAN networks.
- Experience configuring Juniper, Aruba devices and Cisco Firewalls.
- Good knowledge of: IPv4 and IPv6 routing protocols (internal and external), LAN, VLAN, EVPN, MPLS, VPLS, VXLAN, DHCP and DNS.
- Proven experience with L2 and L3 network tools, monitoring, and troubleshooting techniques on IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
