Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre Volunteer

Ren's Rescue

Ren's Rescue is a wildlife hospital and rehabilitation centre based in Keyingham, East Yorkshire. The centre provides treatment to all british wildlife. Volunteers are needed during spring, summer and autumn to help with caring for the animals and all year aroud to keep the buildings and grounds in good repair.

The main shift is from 8am to 1pm. To start with ypu will be asked to help weigh, feed and clean the animals and their housng and to ensure the buildings and grounds are kept clean and safe. As you gain more skills and confidence you will have the opportunity to learn to make assessments, help capture wouded or sick animals, admiinister medicine, take animals to the vets for treatment and more. All necessary traing will be given.

During the height of the season we open to a second shift from 4 - 6 pm

Please be aware that ths is a wildlife rescue and so we handle the animals as little as possible. This is not a place to volunteer if you are hoping to cuddle the animals!

We also have a second site at Winestead where we keep our sheep, pigs and some birds on pre-release, which we visit at least once a day.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Feeding and wieghing animals and birds in the rescue
  • Administering medication under supervision (when trained)
  • Checking the enclosures for wear and tear and security
  • Basic maintenance/DIY of enclosures and buildings on site
  • Keeping the site clean and tidy
  • Helping capture wounded or sick animals
  • Helping transport animals to and from the vet or to release sites
  • Keeping records of admissions, discharges, weights and medication
