Job Description

Job Title: Wellbeing and Safeguarding Officer

Closing Date: 31/05/:59

Pay: £12,550.11 - £13,641.49 per annum (20 hours per week, 40 weeks per annum)

Overview

As part of the Student Experience and Engagement department, the Wellbeing and Safeguarding Officer provides high quality and responsive wellbeing and safeguarding services to all students, supporting attendance, retention and achievement strategies and working closely with academic staff and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first response safeguarding contact, managing rapid response and maintaining college cover.
  • Maintain accurate records using college systems (ProMonitor, UnitE, etc.).
  • Deliver annual safeguarding updates and promote safeguarding, preventing and wellbeing support.
  • Conduct risk assessments, manage risk plans, and provide initial support to individuals identified as at risk.
  • Provide one to one and group wellbeing interventions, including anxiety and exam support sessions.
  • Measure impact of interventions, producing statistics to inform continual development.
  • Maintain and update a flexible caseload, prioritising complex needs and safeguarding concerns.
  • Participate in the College Safeguarding Team and attend caseload reviews.
  • Support recruitment events, enrolment activities and promotion of wellbeing campaigns.
  • Perform duties as First Aider and Fire Marshal when required.
Attainment & Qualifications
  • Level 2 (or willingness to obtain) in Maths and English.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in counselling, guidance, teaching, youth work, health professions or related.
  • Relevant safeguarding training and CPD.
Skills & Competencies
  • Experience supporting a range of client groups in educational or youth settings.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and local support agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build professional relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Ability to motivate learners and deliver group work.
  • Administration skills, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • First Aid trained or willing to undertake training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and other computer applications.
